Does the Music Business Respect You?

One of the members of the World Wide MIC -Music Industry Connection Community sent me a private message about how they don't get support from their local music industry celebrities and others even though they are attempting to properly represent their city. Below is my response to the comment.

Here are some things to keep in mind.

Every city I've gone in says the same thing, every single city, no matter how small or how large. There will always be those who get it who will work together and those that don't. Some get it sooner than others.

It has been my experience that those that truly get it work together and move beyond there city limits to grow their fan base. These folks connect and do business (make money) with other people from other cities that get it and they build off each others fan base. They take the best they have at the moment and move forward they make adjustments as needed. They are creative in their branding, marketing, promotions and publicity. They keep their movements moving.

The other factor no one wants to say is that maybe the music and the artist simply aren't that good. I don't know if that's your case or not with the people you're working with I'm not here to judge only to say that it is a factor.

An artist maybe the coolest cat on the block, but his/her music isn't that good and needs a lot of improvement in this case people want follow because the music simply isn't that great. On the other side of the coin you might have an artist that everybody loves, because they are a go getter and a people person, but they haven't found that 1, 2, 3, 4 and/or 5 hit songs that has everybody singing the hook, dancing, thinking and moving to.

You have to have all elements coming together at one time. Trust that when you have that local artist who's a people person that's out there promoting their music and has a hot song the local music celebs and business people will call you. In fact, don't worry about the local celebs build your fan base and they will come. They have to because you would have made enough noise and have the hears, eyes and hearts of the people.
