Repition increases your chances of winning in the music business. Many new artist perform a new song a few times, get tired of it and start performing new material in just a few weeks or less. This isn't a good thing if you are attempting to grow your fan base and get the attention of music business movers and shakers.
Yesterday, I went to a music festival where several artist were performing. Although I know some of the artist I couldn't tell you what their "hot" song was if my life dependend upon it. One of the reasons could be because they didn't have a "hot" song or because they rarely performed the same song more than a few times. Given most independent artist have little to know major radio or tv rotation their fans will typically come to know their music through repition of songs at live performances.
A few recording artist out of Atlanta, Citty-Cookie Man, Willie Joe, Lady X and Rock City all have had that "hot" song they perform regularly at Music Conferences, Atlanta Music Showcases and Talent Shows. I've seen each of these artist perform and watched how the audience embraced their music singing every word with them. This only happened because the artist had that "hot" song and they performed that song over and over again.
Citty, Willie Joe, Rocky City and Lady X continue to get situations in part because of them performing their "hot" song over and over again as this helped them create a significant street buzz with fans and the music business. Word to the wise find your "hot" song and perform it like it's your religion. Over time fans will come to embrace you and your music.
