Music business branding, marketing & promotions are in place to do one thing -sell.
Aspiring music business professionals are on the Internet and are actively branding, marketing and promoting, but they have nothing to sell. That's like going to V103 in Atlanta (the biggest radio station in the A) getting your song played and not having any music for people to buy at retail or download online. You would have missed a great opportunity to generate money from your branding, marketing & promotions efforts.
The point here is some think that my online marketing & promotions is a bit overbearing, but the reality is the more I market and promote the greater my visibility and the greater my sells. More importantly you too should have or offer something to sell. We all our consumers of products and services, but few of us are producers of products and services.
Until we get pass the employer mentality and move into the owner/operator reality we will continue to ask, beg or otherwise seek some sort of recording, publishing or production deal instead of creating an opportunity for ourselves and those around us.
Brian M. Cox is by all accounts good. He his platinum songs under his belt. He can walk into a situation and get business done. More than likely he has a team of attorneys, accountants and advisor's who assist him I'm sure. Yet, he started Studio Exposed seemingly on his own without the funding of a major entity in an effort to sell you his next phase of product(s). In addition, he and his team get to scout new talent, but even if none of you join their team you know about his reality show.
Why do you market and promote?
